Travellers Auto Barn have taken home the "Best National Camper/Car rental company" award at this years Golden Backpacks. That's 3 out of the last 4 years we've gone home with the silverware!! Or clear plastic pointy thing-ware as is the case! The awards dinner, hosted by TNT magazine and conducted by comedian Jeff Green, was held on Thursday night at Star City casino in Sydney and is Australia's premier awards night for the youth travel and backpacker industry. This was the forth time Travellers Auto Barn have been nominated as finalists in a group which this year included some of the cream of Australia's backpacker industry and to tell you the truth things were a little nervy at the TAB table. This is what Travellers Auto Barn MD Peter Burke has to say about the win. "It was such an honor to be nominated again as a finalist for the Golden Backpacks. This award just keeps getting bigger and bigger every year so even to included in the final five or six is pretty special. But to take home the prize against some excellent competition tonight is just amazing. It's testament to the hard work and dedication shown by everyone at TAB over the last 12 months and really caps off another great year for all of us. Texas's first dedicated fixed-gear/single-speed bicycle shop has just moved from an underground artist studio to prime East 6th real estate, complete with eye-catching touches like a giant exterior skull mural comprised of bike parts and a window shutter that functions on a pulley system of chains and crank hubs, so if you receive a call from someone with a hilarious ethnic accent, you'll know where it's coming from. Coinciding with the relocation, they've unveiled a slew of new bikes from manufacturers like Retrospec (starting at 0) and Italy's hand-built specialists Cinelli, plus shock-absorbing Big Block frames from All City and custom forked Affinitys out of the BK; sweet holdovers include a clear-coated, Pabst-logo-covered Traitor frame, though its original allegiance was to High Life. They've also upped their gear game, with reinforced crotch jeans from Cadence, speaker-equipped backpacks from Fydelity, and new tees like one transposing a schnauzer onto a bike frame called "Of Course I'm Fixed", but for safety he should still wear a helmet. We learned the do's and don'ts and the many ways common thieves and pickpockets work. So, with what we thought was an adequate knowledge of techniques to safeguard ourselves against these risks we took off with confidence. Now, here's a trick to add to the scammer's book: Jess and I were walking around Buenos Aires for a few hours to kill some time before we could check into our hostel. We took the red-eye flight from Lima to BA, thus we missed a night's sleep. In a semiconscious but excited mood we were walking around enjoying all the sites and scenes when all of a sudden we got covered with some sort of liquid. We had just walked alongside a park and under a bunch of trees (under which numerous bums had made their home). We looked into the trees thinking it was a bird or two that got us, but we didn't see anything, plus, the amount of stuff that was on us would have required the work of a flock of birds.
